    Jefferson Coin Facts:
This 1942-D Jefferson Nickel has the Pre-WW II composition of Copper/Nickel.
In 1942, mintage of the Jefferson Nickel was interrupted by the arrival of the New Alloy(War Time composition of 35% silver, 56% Copper and 9% Manganese) along with the newly Revised Reverse Dies with the Mint Mark located above the dome of Monticello. All of the Mint Marks were located there including the “P” from Philadelphia. This is the first time that the Philadelphia Mint had ever put it’s Mint Mark on Domestic Coins.
Another interesting item that we discovered, is that testing of the New(“War Years”} Jefferson Nickels began on May 13, 1942.
    Actual minting
of the New Jefferson War Nickels(containing 35% Silver began on October 8, 1942.
